This is only true if the equipment is damage and needs repair. As I have increase the number of items that I can install, yet are in my hold the total upkeep has risen as if I had the item installed.

I.e I am paying for the scanners in my hold, but if I sell them then my upkeep drops.

There are two kinds of 'in the hold'. The first kind, is things you get from NPC drops. These things are in your hold until you install them. You are not paying upkeep on them until you install them.

The other kind of 'in the hold' is when you uninstall a module. You still pay upkeep on it but you get no benefit from it since it isn't active.

Once things are installed, the only way to cut your upkeep is to sell the module.

You can install and uninstall until it is broke then you don't have to provide the minerals just the payment of a new gun to fix. When it is Broken it does not count. Just a thought to those that have the space but want to free up some upkeep for a bit and dont really want to sell off the items.

I changed it from "don't" to "DO" myself a month or two ago, when I first noticed they DO still affect your upkeep. It's good to know they do NOT affect your upkeep if they are broken, you should add that the wiki page yourself and get some credit =).

Whenever you find a new fact, or inconsistency you should feel free to double check your findings and then change it just change it, that's the point of a wiki. That page, like many others has been vandalized so only registered accounts can edit it. Adding your account is not hard, just go along and sign up.
