How exactly does hiring a merc help anyone?

To hire someone to do things by the action is pointless. A few disables really makes no difference in the game. So I don't see the purpose in that.

Also there is the question of how the mercs prove they were effective, did there job and accomplished their goal.

Just something I have always wondered about.

my question is how are they alerted to the enemy in the first place. especially if its 24 hours after the initial conflict...

no they go to the legion of the employer and they share straight away.

I thought you had to wait 24 hours to alert?

They go to the client's legion where the target then gets alerted.

Unless it's a hunt mission. In THAT case they often go to the target's legion to 'trade' and hope to 'trade' with the person in question. Once they sent you something you do not pay them, you then drop out and attack them from your newsfeed.

And if you line up your hit jobs, you can scoop up several contracts in one night and make it back to home base in time for tea.

But to do that dont you have to wait on the 24 hour timer? And you cannot alert someone unless they recently hacked/disabled/raided you.

No, they are saying that they go to the victim's legion and fall on the alert once they join.

if you leave a legion you can't share alerts on things that happened in old legion with a new legion for 24 hours

no such restriction on getting alerts if you join new legion though- and although you can't share them- you keep your own news feed

Hope this clarifies- as a legion leader i am guessing you don't legion hop much

Just wondering are there any real mecs out there? the only thing i have seen is I'm a merc I'm a merc and then most of them seem to just sell planets. unless the whole merc thing is just for lower ranks? has any of them had any real jobs come there way. cause from what i can tell [wana merc] is the best one out there and all he seems to do is sell planets.I don't know maybe its just my experiences with them and i don't know any of the real ones but to me it seems like merc is short for merchants not mercenary . <--- unless that's what it is and i was wrong from the start.

He's only good for beating up on tiny sub100 legions like ISAF and buying kills/badges from members of the legions he's in...

im a trader or a merchant and a merc (mercenary) and from what i know most merc including me put up in their merc page that they will sell planets from other legions or attack people or come over and help out during a war but most people dont want the other two options so they just choose the planet one the merc is not at fault of selling planets because the person wants a planet so ya thats my point of view and experience

no i was only a merchant or a trader whatever you want to call it but just about 2 months ago i decided to become a full merc and a full trader my thread ( viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7383&p=59050#p59050)
i do everything that any other merc would do and for a lower price it just has to be in my level range which grows through out time right now it is anyone below 140
