First thing is: what are you interested in? PvP, NPC, Missions, or a mixture of both?
Next what is your style of play? do you like slow ranking, normal pace, or do you try to rank up at least once a day?
Also how long have you been playing? the "back in my day" or "a long road to get here" will tell you your exact days.

From there we ( the active forum members ) will be able to assist you better

I'm rank 359, so I can give you averages for each play style as I've seen them.

Im interested in a mix of all three of them although im focusing more on missions and npc but will move to pvping more soon.
I just rank up at a normal pace so whenever i happen to level up by doing missions or killing npc's, i have been playing for 684 days but stopped for a couple of months in the middle as i slightly lost interest in GL for a bit.

If it helps these are my ship stats
Battles 42607 (Legend)
Player Kills 492
Deaths from Players 244
Non-Player Kills 1743
Planets Found 486
Planets Occupied 82
Planets Captured 30
Missions Completed 822
Scans Performed 1378
Successful Hacks 40
Successful Raids 176

Ok well for missions / NPC your not doing to bad, your energy is more or less where it needs to be to rank up at an average pace, and as for the NPC's your attack and defense - while slighltly on the lower average side - for people our rank range your not doing bad. As for PvP that is another story, if you were to PvP right now I dont think you would be very successfull average PvPer's at our range ( 3-400 ) are on average running 6k attack / defence unbuffed and without racial adjustments. They are also running between 11-15k hull ( without fixer ).

Some things I noticed after re-reading your post:
you didnt list your decks : this will let me know what type of build you are going for so i can give you any more relevant advice.
what are your hourly production rates?

Things I'm going to suggest regardless:
1. pump all rank points into tac officers to build your attack , unless you want to be able to auto rank early on. stop putting them in decks for right now
2. if you have the ability to change race / profession and dont need Kronyn to build your research anymore drop builder, go either konqol fixer, or aerlen fixer. Those will suite you best for PvP, and NPC alike.

Wait, what people are you fighting? I did a small spree, and only 1 had more than 5k defense, and enough hull to not die in under 50 energy.

Post subject:  Re: Advice for my ship

guess im fighting high average? but thats about normal for what I see, low end is roughly 4k / 4k

I also have 3 surge plexus for the npc battles

what do you mean by listing my decks?

My hourly rates are 5k mineral, 3.2k arti and 6k research

also i stopped putting rank points into decks about 30-40 ranks ago and put them all into engineers as i only had 150

Post subject:  Re: Advice for my ship

yes sorry after reviewing that post it was slightly on the other side of ambiguous...
I ment to ask how many decks did you have, are you a small ship build, medium, or are you like me and try to cram everything on?

your mineral and reserach productions are doing fairly well, your artifact production however really needs some work. You'll find that a general course of action would be to have double your research in artifact production, personally I prefer an even mix - at least for now.

but that should be the first thing you address is getting your arti production up. also be selective in your planets it might mean that you leave a couple of slots open but it will pay off when you get a worthwhile one.

other tips, dont go on huge scan runs, do small bursts of say... 100 being able to scan lots of planets at a time is fun sure, but being able to scan more often will be alot more interesting than purging down from 800 pieces of stellar crap.

on to ship:

despite the hype over thetacron cannons, I still prefer null rays at the moment, you get slighly less bang for your space but the huge diference in upkeep will afford you more options as the tech becomes available.

Highly recommend getting that last DOM 3 cannon, as well as the upgrades if your interested in them +320 free attack is always good
Also really get that last protean armory they are the best static Hull:Deck ratio mod in the game.

I'm a huge stickler for defense so I would say get more defense mods, but thats me <- if you are an SSB you can get around this.

at this point i would like to point out that I am dumb and apparently going blind as you did in fact state that you had 2200 decks in your original post........

things that will help ALOT, and my personal recomendations based upon what you want to do:
1. STOP EVERYTHING and do the Mylarai chain until you get the kalvium fortified platings.
2. Hoard ALL android helmsman ( 300 ), void shells ( 600 ), xcharge cells (300 ), and shield amps ( 600 ) until you have the parenthetical values of each.
3. find a legion with the Velox thruster and Aegis Capaciter discoveries, ask them politely to let you join them for a week so you can use their lab.
4. Do the Zolazin chain until you have a "Glavex Device" switch from kronyn to either Konquol fixer, Aerlen fixer, Or Drannik fixer ( if you have it unlocked, fantastic NPC race, but Konquol affords more flexibility )

** and always be picky with your planets -> anyone can take a crap, just dont do it here :)

I wouldn't say be too picky, settle with Rich or better and average or bigger. From Extremely Rich and under put pure production on it, because they're plentiful, not really worth the energy and credits to steal and easily replaced.

Your attack/defence is kind of lackluster. I think Elerian's estimate on ship strength is a bit high though. Particuarly the hull score.

At 311, our attacks are very well matched. (4000 vs 4694). It's defence where the gap really lies. My defence is more than double yours at 7109, with our hulls being nigh identical (9464 vs 9264). Weird difference is that I'm using Fermionics, whereas you're using Syncopated Plating. I guess it's probably the Silthion plating you are missing? I'm Zolazin Saboteur, so I get no racial boosts. My upkeep is around the same as yours, with no builder and a stronger ship.

As Elerian said, start pumping into TOs. I do 50/50 TO/Engineers. I have around 1k of each right now.

What defense modules do you have? I still need to reinstall 2 of my defense modules as i just turned from a sillix.
yeah i still need to get the silthion plating and havent got the kalvium fortified plating. But yeah im not going to pump my rank points into TO as i already have over 1k engineers and lack in TO, that sould bring my attack up. How is your upkeep the same as mine with no builder?

Defences: Exergonic Inverter x4, Trans-Temporal Nacelle - Mark III x4, Velox Thruster x2, Sha'din Forcevoider, Dark Phase Engine x4, Silthion T-Phase Utricle x3, Subspace Compressor, Thrust Stabilizer

As I say, I only use Fermionic Plating and more special platings than you have to make up the difference, plus my cores are at a lower level. That probably is the entire difference.

I can only report on what ive been seeing, though ive mostly been hacking for a while so it might have changed.

Also regaurding where to place points from rank and prisoners: totally depends on your style of play i only have 442 engineers and im totally fine with that, its all in how you play, and what makes ya happy.
