Many of the experienced players don't mind helping guide newer players with their ship-building, resource development and research strategy. In fact, several of us enjoy helping the next generation. BUT.... It's getting out of hand now. Right now there are 10 different "rate me" threads (including a couple "gag" threads). Is it really that hard to look at a few of the existing threads and compare your own situation to them and evaluate what you should do based on the advice given? Or is it actually necessary for the "pros" to post essentially the SAME advice over and over? This recent flood of "help me" threads has kinda put me off from helping anyone right now and to me that's disappointing. I'm one of those that enjoys mentoring new players to help them truly enjoy this awesome game and I've lost that desire because nobody seems able or willing to think for themselves anymore and adapt advice to suit their own situations and ambitions.

100% Agree. I do not mind sharing what I know, but half of these were because others were doing it. It's out of hand.

My suggestion would be to have the topics renamed "Rate me (and then put level of the player)"

That would be nice, but it's not going to stop some rank 65 from posting because they feel the rank 50 and rank 75 threads don't apply to them.

I realize this is "how the internet forums work" but its just annoying to me that nobody seems to be able to extrapolate from already existing situations.

Problem is Darth, although you're right, a lot of the lowbies believe that "their situation is unique" and that if they extrapolate off of other posts, there might be something that was NOT said that could have helped them.

Imagine putting yourself in a lowbie's shoes where they look around at all the other threads and say..."Well this is similar to my ship, but what about this? And oh dear, I don't have that module, should I be worried? Yikes! My tech seems to be really low here...but where SHOULD it be?"

Eventually, from looking around at all the threads, their unsure-ness becomes more and more as they attempt to make sense of it all for their specific ship. Although it's true that most could potentially extrapolate information, there's nothing like a direct-on-your-ship evaluation. So most people would probably STILL opt for a thread of their own, regardless of other threads being made already, and it's really obvious that that is clearly what's happened (by the obvious state of the message boards)

that's why i was occasionally telling people to find a legion to take them in and help mentor them... you get personalized assistance that way... i skip over these "how am i doing now" threads.... i don't even look at who posted it because i'm afraid to find out it's the same people every week

I put mine up then everyone put theirs put and also said *bandwagon*
There is no bandwagon. Most of them are nothing but mass energy/no decks.

*holds up 2 cents*
Perhaps a thread where the lowbies post their stats, then people give them advice. Move on to next person in thread, give them advice, and so on and so forth.

Didn't we use to have one thread that did just that around here?

You know what, I think most of them are looking for attention. They feel good when someone praises their stats, etc. Or hope that someone will. Just my honest opinion, no offense intended.

I posted one of those threads, because I always like to improve my ship. If there is a way to make my ship stronger I $%&% wanna get on it! I don't like looking at other people's threads because different people use different strategies. I can look at some energy guy and go "I beat you there, I beat you there, hell, I'm WAAAAY ahead of you there... HA! I even beat you on energy!", but it means nothing to me really. Looking at other people's ship has virtually no value.
