Sorry if this has been brought up before, but -
As a new player, I thought that the best way to work towards a good planet would be to do the set of quests that leads up to getting the location of Exotica.
It turns out, according to my legion, that there is one and only one of those planets. And of course, it is owned by an extremely high level player.
I'm fine with that, but my issue is that the Wiki and the text of the quest itself needs to identify that the world may already be owned by a player. It's a serious letdown to work towards an early goal only to find the big prize at the end is essentially impossible to obtain.
Alternatively, how about letting players find a random high (but not as high) quality world? Give something for the effort.

What text would have been better?
Mission Reward: Location of Exotica
It does not say an exotic planet but a specific planet named Exotica.
You can edit the wiki if it upsets you. I understand your desire to get a good planet from a mission, sadly, for me, until level 95 when I got mass surface melters and even then, I had to have good planets to use that on.

This was my complaint, too. Neither the mission description nor the wiki make it clear that there is only one Exotica for the entire game.

Well, I added a note to the mission page on the wiki at least.

Per Completion Rewards: Location of Exotica NOTE: This gives you the location of the planet Exotica as if you had scanned it. The planet is immune to artifacts, cannot be alerted, and is currently owned by high level players. You will not get your own planet from this, just the location of the same planet everybody else gets from doing the mission.
Thanks. That clarifies things very nicely. Still a worthy mission, just no longer the expectation of a vast reward.

I wish it had been like that when I did the mission months ago. I wouldn't even have bothered if it had been. haahaaha.

Since Exotica is immune to artifacts it should either have the old size for planet defenses or also be immune to planet defense and attack its enough of an advantage to have defenders who cant be warped away....as the rules stand now Dan you have essentially handed Exotica to the Dysonians with no REAL chance of anyone ever taking it, I have not done the mission but i have herd the complaint about Exotica countless times of people having no idea it was a king of the hill planet.

There's a page on the wiki specifically about the planet itself. This page had no mention of it being a single planet, or that it may already be colonised. I've now added two notes to the page explaining this. http://galaxylegion.com/wiki/index.php?title=Exotica

i can personally guarantee that a very coordinated attack on exotica would take it...just like any other world. The problem is getting more than 5 ships attacking at once. Coordination is the key in everything. We have been called bullies and tyrants for not battling one on one...and we would be happy to oblige...just take your traps off.
Exotica is not "owned" by Nocifer...it is colonized by him and "owned" by the Dysonians

Milbrandt, I have participated in coordinated attacks. A group can easily bring a planet down to invasion level and that where it stops. With high enough planetary invasion defense I have seen in one case 7 invasions in a matter of a minute fail. So we had to wait another 12 hours and schedule another coordinate attack. That planet was the hardest one we took because of the planetary invasion defense number. I'm beginning to think that one should care more about the planetary invasion defense number vs. cloaking your planet.

Depends on your tech of course, but for me at least it's more sensible to greatly reduce their chance for invasion, because I can reduce that to a lot lower than I can reduce their chance for scanning the planet.

People tend to also forget that it was taken from another legion awhile back but a strong one.

With the new defense structures, it is truly about numbers of people spamming invasion to get results...with 11k attack, i had a 31% chance against the last planet we group attacked. We failed 11 times and number 12 succeeded with 4.5k attack. It about willing to make the sacrifice on your 24 hour timer unfortunately.

Most people aren't going to try to invade it because they aren't stupid enough to do a whole mission with the only reward being just a chance in hell to sit on a pointless planet. It probably is impossible for the poster to invade and even more impossible to hold on to. Just because that isn't true for the sum of everyone else in the game to mount together so one person can sit on a pointless planet doesn't mean it will ever happen. Not everyone is as egocentric as you guys you know. If you're saying its not impossible, thats fine, but it is pretty much pointless and most missions happen have a reward, not something that, at best, will just sap your energy to invade and your resources afterwards.

Heh. Doesn't matter either way. We controlled Exotica before the upgrade even during Rebellion war. I instructed Dysonians to keep guard rotation on Exotica during entire War because they will use War and initial planet invasion blitz on us (over 20 planets stole from us overnight, yes we got most back and gained more new ones). I knew that it was a diversion so they could re-capture Exotica by having guardians away from it to guard re-captured planets back but we never lost our guard role all along. Now with Exotica's upgrade, it sure had gotten much harder to lose because I scrapped useless slave prejor with nice 1,200 defense structures that are doing much better job at defending. Another reason why it was too hard to have anybody to capture it is because I wasn't dumb enough to treat Exotica as production planet.. When I captured it last October I think as prestige for the legion, I decided to treat it as Capital planet of the Dysonians by designing it as pure military planet with all attack/defense with no production. It's just for roleplay feel for Dysonians to enjoy. Previous owner of the Exotica sure didn't do good job by having just 1 or 2 guardians on it for weeks and it was a mining planet at best with weak attack/defense. I had been eyeing it for 2 weeks studying the pattern and decided to pick best time to sneak in and capture it when owner was offline and had just 1 guardian on it at that time.. I did surprise Dysonians about newly added Exotica to our rule and they were pretty excited about it. We had been using Exotica as our primary defense against titancore data scanning from enemies. We are "treating" Exotica as our legion starbase that many of us are hoping that Dan would finally introduce starbase system into the game. For now, Exotica acts as temporary starbase til then.. Exotica also sets Dysonians legion apart from rest of other legions because we have something that they don't have.. That makes us feel more connected to the legion because it got prestige.. In last two wars only made us closer to each other than before. It had boosted our morale high along with Exotica.. To be honest.. If Exotica is what it is doing right now by other legion, we would probably try to capture it even now and we MIGHT succeed by frequent attempts simply cuz we got team to do the task and frequent invasion attempts and one of them will go through.. Too bad that I did it easy way by doing rogue approach to capture it last Oct. Heh. I'm sorry that newcomers feel disappointed that they can't enjoy owning that unique planet. It is designed as King of the Hill planet that only best ones can rule it. My goal is to rule it longer than Corithin (he ruled it for almost 6 months last spring).

Just how many planets does a flux probe show have scanned it? Curious since it can't be database-purged.

So? I merely am commenting to Bender's post not original post so your claim is correct. Totally irrelevant to original post simply cuz it's not my intention, pfft.. Nice about the thread system is that we don't always have to answer to original post.. I also wanted to sneak in brief recent history of Exotica to original poster and new readers..

Quote: Another reason why it was too hard to have anybody to capture it is because I wasn't dumb enough to treat Exotica as production planet.. Thats exactly my point, and now the owner can have their cake and eat it too.....Who cares if you have a planet your not getting anything out of, if you want to brag about it fine, but as nocifer you say yourself you were not using it as a production planet. Now you can and thats the problem, you keep exotica actually who cares but it would be nice if there was still a king of the hill planet to fight over, exotica cant be called the king of the hill planet and no longer counts as one anymore because it cant be taken as the rules stand. I could hold it with no defenders if i did what nocifer used to do. I believe its massive so i would put 25 oblivion shields and 3 theatcron mine fields and 3 astrocorbs. Is there even a % chance with 66000 on planet att/def? Jesus guys not everything is about you Dysonians. My complaint is about a part of the game, King of the hill, that really no longer exists. No need for you to get all defensive if you are even remotely part of a post. It would be nice if context was taken into account and the " i saw the word Dysonian" attitude was lost. I never said anything ABOUT Dysonians, you hold it now, If GD had still had it i would have mentioned them. Please please plese stop jumping on posts just because your name is mentioned your just a legion period, no more no less.
