I have a question on whether this will work.
I am currently a rank 104, I have Obviation shields, am at Phase Shift Engine - Mark III in defence, and finally I have heavy singularity weapons.
Now through my time playing the game most people seem to focus on weapons and energy primarily, then hull and scanners secondary, and the rest just coming on order of preference. (this is just what I have seen i am not making a generalisation of the forum users)
So my thoughts are, if i were to take away all my weapons, and just put it in defence would i stand a chance? I have 3 Obviation shields equipped giving me around 2000 shield. and if i just use defence i have around 1000 defence.
Obviously this will only work as long as the enemy either gets bored or runs out of energy.
If they have 500 energy, thats 100 attacks, i would need them to do a maximum average of 20 damage for me to survive.
Thoughts? ideas?

If it was me, and the ship I was attacking had no weapons and such a small attack they done virtually no damage, then I would consider them a free kill as repairing from a fight can be expensive, though many at your rank probably dont have 500 energy to invest in a kill.
The method I have used to stay largely unbothered is to load up on hull and defense. Shields can be knocked out in one by a krionite torpedo putting a bit of a dent in your strategy. If it were me i'd remove shields and bulk up on hull.

If people hit 10-15 times doing low damage and not getting past shields they will move on. Often with a complement on your comm. If they have a krionite torpedo you will die. You need a balance of shield and hull.

krionite torpedo is the one thing that i find annoying in game, it seems very imbalanced really, as their is no equivalent to people who tank up on hull. which renders shields useless. But i have never had a krionite torpedo fired at me yet, people dont seem to bother with that mission to much. Im not bothered by attackers, my legion is strong and i rarely get disabled by people currently, i am just wondering if their is an opposite option to the 'lots of attack' way of playing. EDIT Gonna build up some cash and test it out me thinks. Will report back on how many times i die

Very Impressive, Obviation Barriers at your rank I put Energy, Structures and Scanners first. Hull, Weapons, Defence Second Shields, Cloak and Base Last

I did do scanners at first, just so i can scan blitz every now and then, no one in my legion has scanned more planets, or shared more planets than me, no one has shared better ones either. We lost the best one recently though . I always like the idea of shields, so I researched em. but it really lowers my cash flow, they are expensive (not as expensive as some modules no, but still its a lot) costs me a billion to buy one, which is annoying as the max cash i have ever had is 2 B

chaostatic inhibitors are nice against ship shields too if someone doesn't have a krio-torpedo.. won't have to worry about the recharge for a few hrs
my personal order is... NRG+relays, def+hull, weapons, scan+cloak, shields... i'll squeeze in what i need for my planets as the needs arise... currently have 6600 research/hr, so i'm finishing off the shield research tree since it's the quickest
by the way, don't forget that the defense research tree (and the cloak tree) alternate between two different types of modules that can be equipped simultaneously... you can have 4x Mk3 Phase Shift Engines (dampeners) AND 4x Mk3 Microwarp Nacelles (thrusters) equipped at the same time

They're a very useful substitute for a defensive array at lower levels. i started switching in high defenses initially because of ship repair costs. I found a high defence definitely puts off players. Mine's about 4,500 without a grid console at rank 307. Some players have even higher defence at lower level. Think Silent Night has somethink like 8000 at rank 240 and much, much better PvP stats than mine. A high attack is a good defence too. I'm sure many Dysonian players would agree. A player with a high attack can tear into a player with a high defence. There are players with higher attack than 1,000 around your rank I reckon. I'm only just starting to play with shields at rank 300. I always preferred hull because it has better protection for the size and can be repaired in 5 mins. I still don't have Obviation tech at rank 300. This means my planets are vulnerable of course but it's a risk I'm taking.

I dont have great research, but its better than most around my rank in my legion. I know many rank 300+ players who still don't have Obviator shields. Also to get that tech, you'd have to spend roughly 2 to 2.5 million research total from the first shield tech all the way to the last tech. 2.5 million research is A LOT for someone in the level 100 area.

I have done a total of 3,302,487 research. I get 1304 research an hour, plus our base shipment (but thats barely 900 a day, as we have allocated by % contribution). Technically I could have got them even quicker, if I had focussed a little bit more. But I would have run out of cash, they take up 80% of my daily upkeep. Also the rank 300 players you know, im sure they have better hull, weapons and energy levels than me, they probably have better cloak and buildings to. I basically focused on shields primarily, then defence, then scanners and finally weapons.

Well I have tested the ship for a while, no one attacked me, so perhaps it is a good deterrent, but its really boring, barely do any damage.
