this may be as stupid as any question that has been asked but at the risk of looking like a moron ill ask it. There has been an ongoing talk in my legion about invasion defense.. does this only come into play in the way that invasion defense is just there to stand against invasion attack.. such as lazuli mind controllers, bane emitters, ect, and invasion arts? . If so is it really needed to have any regular defense on your planet? .. and also invasion defense shows no bonus to the planets defense and shows no legion related bonus...thus the reason for my question. Have i been wasting my time to make my planets have an outstanding 2100 invade defense (with no legion bonus) vs my only 1400 regular defense (reg def is after legion bonus)? ... please give a short explanation on how this works... if anyone else can give me an answer they know to be true feel free to post.. other than that i don't care for speculation from the peanut gallery...

Defense and Invasion Defense work the same for decreasing somebody's chance for successful invasion, the difference is you can usually put more Invasion Defense per space than regular defense, such as with the Lazuli Pylon, 600 Invasion Defense/Space is the best as far as I know. Legion bonus does apply to Invasion Defense as much as everything else.

Personally, I focus on Invasion Defense, partly because my attack structures are a lot better than my defense structures, so I can have a lot more invasion defense for the same space by using attack instead. In the end, attack and defense will slow them down but probably not keep them off, so you're better off putting more invasion defense in order to actually keep them off.

Anyway, yes, Invasion Defense only comes into play when they actually invade, but you get more of it for each space usually (depending on what buildings you have available) so it's better for actually keeping them off the planet instead of just slowing them down, and the Legion bonus applies to Invasion Defense and everything else when the planet is invaded.

thanks for clarifying that.. i have thought this for a long time ... i would rather use pylons and such for invade defense then the crap i have for regular defense and like you i also am far better off in the attack department... though i only use it if the planet is scanned by other ships... would much rather use cloak... preferably passive cloak and defense (dropped by lazuli fabrication plant) and only use art invasion defense and cloak makes it easier to maximize your production for the space you have while making it either impossible to scan or and impossible to take planet... or both..

Yeah, it's just that cloak is a lot lower than scan, so it'll probably be found anyway, but for me at least I can add enough Invasion Defense that I'm not too worried if people find it anyway, because they probably couldn't take it. It's hard to say which is definitely better though, and depends on your tech level. Lazuli Pylons are definitely the best things though, up to 3600 Invasion Defense for 3 space.

I disagree totally with going for invasion defense over regular defense. It has been some time since i posted any straight strategy but i think every player in the game who has reasonable research should get oblivion barriers. Shields are a pretty cheap tier and its not much more then a million in research to reach this technology. for that you get the oblivion barrier which is 1200 defense for 2 that is the same ratio as the pylons. the problem with pylons is it dose nothing to lessen the per shot damage so even if you have 1800 defense(3600 with bonus) from pylons your planet is still taking 20 damage per turn. Even if you have just 2 barriers(one more space) you have 4800 planet defense during the actual attack so your planet is taking a lot less damage. This costs the attacker more energy and gives you more time to get the alert if your online. Before the update pylons and other invasion defenses were great, now there not nearly as good as regular defense which can be obtained.

They are "nearly as good as regular defense which can be obtained", only the Obviation Barrier matches it. But I was not saying anything contrary to what you're saying and I don't disagree with you, I was just saying that, out of the buildings you have available now, use the ones that would give the most invasion defense, because it doesn't matter if they can kill the whole population if they can't successfully invade it. Certainly, if you can build Obviation Barriers then go for it, but if you're like me and have no shield research but can build Null Minefields then you're better off with those than Surface Bunkers.

I didn't make it clear, but "invasion defense" is the overall defense from invasion, attack/defense/Invasion Defense, and "Invasion Defense" is from buildings that specify that like the Lazuli Pylon.

So yeah, if you can build Obviation Barriers then yeah, go for it, but if you can't then just build whatever gives the most attack/defense/Invasion Defense per space of what you can build

Yes and no. I have theatcron minefield yet even so i use my planet shields for 750 instead of 1000 for the minefield. I pay the price in space because if you have attacked a planet with defense you know its much more of a #$&*@ to do it with defenses and pop. For straight % your right with the highest numbers however it discounts that some players who will actually have a % chance of invasion with no defense except for invasion actually cant over come a well defended planet to even reach invasion status. Dont judge all players by Dysonians standards, I do but that way even they have only a low percent and weaker players have no shot to even invade.

Yeah, that's a good point, just depends on your specific tech levels. I guess I was mostly thinking of higher levels, since I recently had a run-in with your Legion : P

Im confused about the difference between attack and defense when it comes to planet invasion defense. I was under the impression that the attack stats counted as much as the defense stat when it came to invasion defense but someone in my legion said that they thought defense counted more so. Is this true and if so how much does attack count for planet invasion defense. I have researched attack mods alot more than shields so I had practically have no defense and alot of attack on my planets.

As far as we can tell they count equally for invasion defense. Where did your legion mate hear otherwise?

oh you know, he heard from someone that heard from someone that thought they knew better. Its kind of funny, with the wiki being kinda crappy (no planet invasion page for instance) and that things are changing all the time, there just seems to be no player that knows everything. In a lot of ways I like that but it leaves room for bad intel to spread and not knowing if you are getting it. I also hope things keep changing. GL has a relatively small community that is constantly evolving their gameplay, so the changes freshens things up and keeps things balanced.

So after I research Singularity Minefields (size two attack 450) its makes my Soldier Outposts (size two Invasion Defense 300) completely obsolete because not only does it not attack anyone but it does not provide as much invasion defense either. Well, thats.. interesting.

Yeah, they made a number of special things become obsolete much earlier after the change.

Normal structures from credits can be destroyed by crimson cluster missiles and saboteurs but structures from blueprints, NPC drops, chassis and of course passive abilities cannot be destroyed.
