I recently changed my species to a Sillix, i then chose to be an exploere, now the question i have is is explorer has a 20% bonus towards scans, now does that mean that it powers up the scanners or just the scan for planets? because i would like to do some hacking because thats what i did for my last character and i loved it and i just want to know if it powers up the scanning ability.

It should just be extra scanning. Put 20 scan on your ship and you get 21, it's not only in specific situations.

yeah but 20% bonus can be made up with artifacts I would not have picked explorer to me it seems like a waste of a pick builder is my choice for the -50 upkeep if human had builder id be human but i also went with sillix for ship size this time around ,I have another new era thingy in storage somehow I got 3 I may change again but not today .

see thats what i thought, because ive used a shadin hacking algorithm with like a subspace seeker and 600 scan initially and have hacked for 150+ RP when i was only getting like 90-100 give or take. then again it all depends on who you hack.;
