Artifacts are also the only commodity worth a crap once you've got upkeep paid. If you want the medals for the other two, go for it, but otherwise, ditch them as quickly as possible. They're poor investments of your time - making a 15X from a Mega Rich takes about a month, so you might as well be using that time in a way that will benefit you forever, rather than just in your low levels. Terraformers.

 This is purely speculative, as I have unlocked none of these myself, but I have done a lot of thinking on this topic, so I figured I would share my thoughts.
It seems to me that the reasons people say that Mylarai and Kronyn are inferior or not worth your time are
1. If you npc a lot, you can make 16x vl toxics and 17x plasmas til you are blue in the face without having to finish those laborious chains
2. Relatively decent research and mining planets are sortof easy to come by naturally
3. Artifact is more effective of a force multiplier than mining or research in every aspect
As I see it, these are the counter claims.
1. Not everyone npcs a lot. Something like Mylarai Fixer could be a good way of fixing upkeep problems for a hardcore pvper who doesn't "waste time" chasing npcs.
2. There is something to be said for consolidation of basic supply. The less spread out your mining and research production is, the more you can afford to focus on Artifact planets. Thus, it is important to note that both Mylarai and Kronyn get Explorer, meaning you can do scan blitzes somewhat more frequently. Doubly true if you are MylEpl, as you will be more easily able to fund said blitzes. Not only would you find more natural and enemy planets with good ap, but you could make trades for better ap production as well.
3. Well, there's no real argument I can make against that one. Ap gives not only stuff like TMs, Fuses and buffs for npcing and pvp, it also gives data discs and scientists for more rp, stuff you can sell for cred or ctp, rank points and decks... There's just no contest.
Finally, the one actual point against Talth that I have personally, and the one thing really holding me back:
The energy expense. If you are committed to getting it, more power to you. But me personally, I don't want to have to spend what would currently be 300 days worth of energy based on my current charge rate (not accounting for refills from ranking). That is a very long time of doing almost nothing else, which would kill the game for me. Of course I could just buy energy refills, but at less than 2k on a full bar, I'm not sure it would be worth it. Even more importantly, I don't think it would be good for me to rank up that quickly, and leave my ship relatively hollow in the process. Thus, I'm not sure I personally will ever do the Talth chain. It's just too much of a sinkhole. If I do only one of the other two, it will be Mylarai, as the Kalviums are worth the whole mission chain by themselves. +10% hull is 1/3 of an entire proffession, or 1/4 of a race.
