All you need is a legion to get NPCs. I don't really see how a group helps anything besides making them die faster, which isn't really a good thing. Having people not go above the lock-in amount makes it all but impossible for a noob to get any loot.
Heh, doesn't even matter.. More legion members = more NPC shares = Faster they die per share. It actually "cancels" each other.. You can have 1 legion and it takes "forever" to get one epic boss for yourself to enjoy 1 single loot drop.. *OR* you get 10 legion members and get 10x increased chance to get shared NPC and have a shot at it and get loot for yourself PLUS for some or all of your legions. I rather to enjoy daily NPC alerts and have a shot on *some* than hoping for one per week with guaranteed shot.. It gets boring heh. I notice that in large legions, lot of legion members got their NPC loots maxed out compared to small legions.. That sure shows something..
It's some players' fault for not getting enough damage to NPC if they didn't strengthen their ships well enough. They also haven't learned how to bank their energy in reserved for NPCs.. I *ALWAYS* bank my 200 energy (It is sufficient for 2 or 3 NPCs with my high attack power) as absolute minimum and use up any energy over 200 to ensure my "guaranteed" shot on NPC drop if I am online when it gets shared. I will use up reserved 200 energy only if it guarantees me a rank-up. It's simple as that. It's not even hard to have good shot at NPC drop but players simply have NO patience to see their energy sitting by and not to waste it. It's their fault. It's just reflection of today's society that have little patience to save $ and they rather to burn it all and borrow instead..
Also, some players who found NPC shared it too early only to lose loot chance. That's another fault of theirs.. They should LEARN to be patient to do enough damage to lock-in loot then share it. It's all about patience to share and to reserve energy then they will become great NPC hunters..
Tip: 1. Get high attack (defense/hull if you want to last many attacks every repair), 2. RESERVE energy all the time unless rank-up or energy refill, 3. share NPC only after loot lock-in..
One of most common mistake that players had when it comes to NPC hunting is that they ranked up too fast (burning cash) and didn't keep their ships strong relative to its rank where NPC always get strong as they rank up. Those very players who zoomed up their ranks will find themselves in tough position to battle NPCs as well as PVPers who took their time to strengthen their ship per rank due to artifact and research production. I had fought several CC warriors who gained 50-100 ranks per day and zoomed past me and I still found them easy target even 50 ranks above my rank simply cuz their ship didn't grow on a healthy pace and their tech were still based on low rank level that they came from in first place.. Those are the very same players who will find NPC hunting frustrating because those NPC will be in higher rank category that certainly packs powerful punch. Those NPCS are VERY easy for me to destroy simply because my ship is simply too strong for med rank category. I could easily destroy ~10 to 15 solo NPCS per repair time. Those same players could fight maybe 1 solo NPC per repair time heh that can result in lot of credit and energy loss that wouldn't be attractive at all.
