I'm sure there's a way, but I'd like some insight into speeding up the rate we can do our researches. It currently requires 55 minute intervals before I generate research points.

You can receive Research hourly from Planetary Production, daily from Base Production, and every fifteen minutes from Hacking. There are also Missions which award RP, as well as the chance to receive varying amounts of RP as your Daily Reward. The best way to improve your Research Rate is to avoid neglecting your Planetary Construction Research and implement this new technology as soon as possible, starting with your best Planets first, and only colonizing Planets with exceptional Resources.

you should be getting your production research points every 60 minutes, not every 55 minutes...
