So I'm hitting rank 20 soon..which means I'll lose noobie protection..I still have over a week of protection time left so long as I stay at 19.

Would I benefit from stayin at 19 for a while..and researching to get my planets equipped with decent defense and attack?

I am the race that gives bonus to research, and I hold 4 planets with great research outputs.

So would it be worth it to sit on 19 and research to a good tech and get my stuff ready for being attacked?

Although i am a newbie too, that doesnt seem like a good idea. You can earn at least 20energy/hour so in a weel you would loose an enormous amount of that, enough for many levels. Also by doing missions you will earn lots of cash and other goodies you can use to protect you planets, not to mention find more planets.

I thought it was enough of a good idea that I have already been doing it myself, as I posted in another forum. I am currently sitting about 100xp from level 20.

At first I had no problem figuring out what to do with the excess energy... I put my research into scanners and scanned until I could not any more (it turns out, if your scanning for planets chance drops to 5 percent, you cannot try to scan anymore). Now that I can no longer scan, I still have a few days left of protective status, which is over 7K research points I can spend without getting raided, plus I can mine for 3 days, building up my credits to colonize my level 20 planet and upgrade both ship and planetary stuff.

With all those extra planets to choose from, I used my free starting GPs to recolonize some planets into better choices (for me, anyway), like trading a Tiny planet with Average resources for a better one. So yeah, for me, I do not see any reason to hit level 20 until the protection expires... you may as well get as much bang for your buck as possible before entering the big bad galaxy.

I used most of my energy on hacking before rank 20. I'm pretty sure scanning gives xp. I wouldn't really recommend staying at the cusp though. It's not as scary as it seem. If you are going to lose a planet, then a few extra tiers of research probably won't stop anyone. Just build defense and population structures on the planets you really want to keep.

I probably would have waited, except that I joined during one of the Prejor missions. Completing them pushed me well over level 20. I agree, though, the basic strategy is sound, in that the lost time is made up for by having a more solid base to stand on when you enter PvP.

Nice... did not know that hacking did not give out xp... may have to do a little more of that to pass the time, but probably not... do not want to make too many enemies before the game has hardly started...

Can someone please remind me how long newbie protection lasts? I've scanned a nice planet that belongs to a 5th level player I know no longer plays (he's been 5th level for nearly a week now) and am eager for a harmless conquer.

Thanks.

My advice is to not put any defense, attack, cloak or pop. on any of your planets for now and just max out the production.

At your level, your not going to be able to put up enough to stop anyone above rank 100. So, no point in losing 20-30% of your production for a defense that won't work.

He's being generous. My crew routinely took inactive planets with ease in their 60's and 70's. I do have to agree with him though. The tech just isn't there to get any reasonable chance of keeping a planet. But remember there are plenty more planets. Losing one can sting a little, but it really isn't that big a deal, just get another one.

Put your research points into energy that is for sure. Join a Legion, safety in numbers but make sure they are active. Try not to tick anyone off to badly. There are alot of good legions some require you be a certain level others don't. Our's The Chosen does not have a rank min. as of now we do require you be active and will remove you from our legion when you go inactive. Have fun with the game, Take what is said to you a Com with a grain of salt. But most of all Enjoy the game!
