The Lutuma Chronicles Chapter One

Border scouts continue to report that remote, unpopulated planets are being found with extensive weapon damage from an unidentified source. The reason for these attacks is unclear, and a full investigation is underway.

Mission Briefing

One of our scouts found another unoccupied planet bombarded by an unknown weapon, and we continue to get similar reports from other vessels. Leaders are growing concerned about this, and would like to gather more intel as to the origins of these attacks.

Trovar Zane: We've transmitted some of the data to your ship already.

Trovar, can we trace the weapons used here from the debris... back to their source ?

Trovar Zane: I've already reviewed much of the surface data. Unfortunately, there aren't any stable samples that can be used for sub-quantum testing.
It looks like this will have to be another standard exo-forensics job, then.

Trovar Zane: Indeed. I'll keep reviewing the new data as it comes in, however. Perhaps something will be of use for a more thorough test.

So, what do we know about the weapons used, then ?

Trovar Zane: Nanosheared directional blasts suggest a weapon intended to penetrate key areas to access the outer core of the planet.
That could completely annihilate the planet surface.

Trovar Zane: Correct. Though the penetration areas are actually quite small, tectonic instability and the resulting tidal disruptions are the typical result.

Trovar Zane: Yes, but not all races have our abilities for subsurface access.
Well, I guess that narrows it down slightly. Our culprit definitely isn't a fellow Litheor.

Trovar Zane: We've created a profile for potential energy signatures based on the type of armament we may be looking for. It should be part of your last upload.
Where should we start our search ?

Trovar Zane: Scan for planets in the area that match the signatures. The planets will likely have clear signs of weapon damage.
Any ideas on what types of planets ?

That's what we're trying to determine. Most likely, our culprit wouldn't fire on occupied worlds. You should focus on isolated places.

Trovar Zane: It is important that you return here every day or so to get the latest data upload before you return to your scans.
Yes, you mentioned that before.

Trovar Zane: The data needs to be cross-referenced with other ships performing similar sweeps to improve efficiency.

• NOTE: you must click the blue Mission Briefing button once every 20 hours in order to get the the ship effect "Nanosheared Weapon Signature - Recent Upload : Special Scanning +1". Once you have the ship effect, you will randomly get the mission-required artifact when you successfully scan a new planet. If you do NOT have the effect, when you scan new planets planets, the mission-required artifact will NOT drop.
