Let's say I have 35,000 science points to spend, and one tech is 30,001 to being finished.

However, I don't want to finish that tech yet. I'd like to put just 30,000 into it and the rest elsewhere.

Therefore, I'd like to be able to type in "30000" under "How many tech points to allocate to (this tech?)"

Should be easy to code. Let me know if there would be any problems. Other than that, "+#" it.

Good idea, but I would suggest keeping a "use all" option as well, so you can choose, and wont have to type in a number.

Can you give one GOOD reason why anyone would split their research into more than one project at a time?

I got this....

He has mutliple personalities and one of his personalities wants to tech weapons while the other one wants to tech defense and third wants to go outside and play basketball, but is rarely the dominate persona. The first two are at odds with each other and thus in order to stop the constant bickering, which has caused him many problems, especially in libraries, he has come with this idea.

OR

he uses base production to do base research and his production for ship mods and not being a leader he can't change the rules to collect and separate the research, because it is automatically added to his own, and timing sucks because is just before he goes to bed/comes home from work or w/e.

I prefer the former, it has a better story imo.

Atm I would love this option so I put a little bit toward base research and rest to modules.... Which soon will be only base tech.

Still no one has answered Darth's question. Why?

Lets say you are researching 2 tiers: Weapons and base research
Okay just for the sake of argument lets say if you put all of your points into weapons it would take 2 weeks to complete 1 tier and if you put everything into base research it would take 4 weeks for that.

Now you could go the logical way and just pick one or the other or you could split them lets say 50/50
if you did that weapons would take 4 weeks to finish and then assuming you then put everything to the base it will take two more weeks.
So doing this weapons gets done in 4 weeks and then everything in 6.

Now had you gone and just chosen weapons and put everything into that it would have been done at two weeks and then switch to base and still be all done in 6 weeks.
Difference here is you've got the next weapons tier two weeks earlier with no drawbacks to how long it takes to get everything done.
This math although simple works for any situation.

If you are going to research something research it and only it.

Or if you REALLY must split, go 1 day weapons, 1 day base?

-1 not necessary IMO. not wanting to finish research on something?? odd, but ok, if you dont want to make your ship better then fine, just dont research it.
splitting research is easy, just go hourly, or day by day.

+1 to have the best of both worlds.

REASONS WHY I SPLIT RESEARCH:

In my earlier, noobish times, I had a frenzy in upgrading anything seeming worthwhile at the time.

However, when I later learned that I could have more than one of that module, I realized that I would have to take many months to build up the decks needed to fill the module allotments.

I still have to place 2 more shield modules (at their latest tech levels), 3 more defense dampeners, and 4 more scanning sensors (and the scanning sensors are the tallest of them all: Each of the M3 Tachyon Sensors are 72 decks high.)

(There are components that drop from NPC enemy ships but I won't look through how many more of them I need to install before meeting their max allotments, but plenty for sure.)

That's why I decided to place my research elsewhere before discovering advances that would create components which take up even MORE deck space. Until those upper component space limits are met, I'll concentrate on planet, energy and base research.

(Energy is the only ship component tech I'll improve in the meantime because I never have enough!)

But now you see why I'd prefer to split my science points?

Think that might be the right one. This guy just made 6 Threads open, most just waste of time

i have 2590 decks, 8 cannons, 2 thrusters, no cloaking, 1 scanner, 5 hulls, no shield. not being able to install everything is just part of the game, you have to choose how you want to play. to have absolutely everything installed that you can get you need 6000+ i think. despite your reasoning i stand by my previous -1

I fail to see where thiis necessary. If you're that concerned about getting your decks up with your mods then stunt your RP. If you're in a base with a CTLab just dump your RP into there. Also if your really want more decks go buy them from the artifact market or join a legion with high artifact production.

Post subject:  Re: Choose how many Science Points go to certain techs.

No need to stunt your rp in any way. It is in no way necessary to have every ship mod you can installed, or even have the best ones you have researched on. eventually you will get to the point where you can afford them and have the room. Who knows maybe you can skip a tier and save yourself some credits in the process.

can't see why u would want a split at all.
if u don't need deck based module, don't put RP into them at all. it will get ur other techs done faster

and when u have enough deck, u can focus in ship modules again.

everything gets done faster if u focus research

No good reason to split, end of story.

I already do; I try to keep my RP as close to 2012 points/hour as possible until I upgrade my mining & artifact productions to catch up. As of today, mining just barely entered the Renaissance; Artifact is still in medieval times.
