It is time to drop the reputation from players. It doesn't really serve a purpose other than defining which pvp targets are going to be easy.

It does, however, discourage new players when they see something that really is meaningless to start out. Arguably ever meaningful.

I think it would help new players stick around in the long run and encourage use of artifacts which, typically, just sit around in cargo.

not really a good reason to get rid of them, actually you haven't even given a real reason. The one use they have, which you stated is extremely useful from rank 1-100 , tell you the difference between a 5 hit kill and a 40 hit kill. I'm rank 400 and its still useful. so by getting rid of it, youll make low ranks lives a lot harder and discourage them from pvping, since they wont know who's easy ( and no low ranks wont waste the time lookign at medals, ppl disables and deaths, since you know mission are sooo much easier to do ) and using more than 5 shots to kill someone with a max nrg of 200 isnt going to be fun. loads of other reasons i can list really, how this helps low ranks and some high ranks...
You've barely given one good reason to get rid of it.. so yh a Big Ol' -1 from me.

he wants to get rid of it cause his ship is laughable.

and i agree with the not change it. if people are like me we hit any ship that shows up on the bt no matter rank or strength when player offline there going to die either way lol and if online who knows i may scoop up a quick kill so it not going to change anything.

and how hard is it to tap a ship if they do 200 to you but your pounding in 2k to 6k damage per hit why not continue hitting if it reversed then yea avoid that ship and remember its name lol no reason to do 200 damage to a ship when it pounding in more then 2k damage to you lol you be sitting there for hours to get a kill and may not get it anyways lol.

issue with lower ranks that dan does need to fix are these low rank resets who had people hold onto planets for them so they can camp at a low rank and pour in production like there no tomorrow then a new player comes along with nothing and gets pounded by these resets

Don't get rid of it, but certainly mix it up..

Add some new levels to show those who have really done a fair whack of PvP
Have some way of showing those who are actively engaging in PvP
While we are at it MORE BADGE ITEMS

this is not a isolated case, or even a rare case. Climbing from laughable to insane is a goal I've seen a fair few of my members aim for. I do however support the counter suggestion that more repuatations should be added.

my suggestion
New levels of reputation.
Brutal, +640 kills
Peacefull -100 kills

Relentless +1000 kills
Brittle -200kills
Unstoppable +2000 kills
- Unworthy -500 kills

And a final level for those for whom pvp is more than yellows blues and reds
Warmonger - +4000 kills, also requires at least 5k kills, 5k raids, 8k hacks

Make reputation a monthly stat. If you dont pvp for a month u return to laughable or untested. Insane status must be maintained or you lose it over time

I like reputation...going from a -402 laughable to a +44x insane took months of work and was well worth it. (The +44x is where I'm hovering these days...it'll keep going up.)

That said, I like the suggestions of having more reputations available, as well as the idea of having the "freshness" of kills make a difference (maybe not having them drop off completely, but a kill or disable yesterday should weigh more than one that was a month ago should weigh more than one that was a year ago...)

Either way, I'm happy as is, and would be sad if reputation disappeared altogether.

im down with a wieder berth of what falls into each category, either that or more categories....at low ranks laughable means either the ship sucks...or they dont attack much...at high ranks it doesnt mean anything....damage dealt tells all you want to know...

rep is just icing, but it is pretty icing and belongs in game....i earned my kills and rep and would hate to lose them so someone doesnt get feeling hurt over being laughable. That said, it you wanted to make people feel less bad about dying so much, remove the deaths from players stat. This would likely drop the halc complaint as well as create a real contest for kills, raids, hacks, etc. People would be willing to more artis and spam, things would REALLY open up. PEople who halc FOR rep and stats wouldn't have to, and people who currently halc might pvp more since they wouldnt be sinlged out all the time for targeting.

Add a new Top 50 onto the leaderboard - "Most Killed".... Gives the passives the chance to get on a board and may give the halc'ers a reason to not halc if by getting disabled they have a chance to get their name on the board....

Personally I believe it discourages new players. some who may be intimidated by the constant pvp they get when their ship is laughable.

sure it is a goal. but you all complain about not enough new players. yet you want to make their experience starting out difficult. I believe that it would help those people who are intimidated by people who constantly disable them by making it more difficult to target weak ships at early ranks. It could also encourage the use of them spy probes you have sitting around all the time.

But of course.... if it doesn't help you, you aren't really for it.

I'd be for that. I think they should be removed anyway. But that is another post.

I think a variation on this that would probably work better would be to add a limit to pvp with players within +/- 40% of the time played in addition to the current limits regarding rank. I wouldn't imagine a change like that would have that drastic an effect on mid to upper rank pvp but would most certainly have a positive effect on low rank pvp. No more resets pounding on truly new players.
