I am going to start spending more on crew and wondering which is the best to have. I need to do better in raiding but I don't raid very often because the risk/reward is so bad. Also, don't understand the new battle calcs because they are screwed up so badly.

So basically which crew should I invest in and why?

Uhh decks? For me, the best weapon tech I have is a Heavy Graviton Shearer. Size 27, +102 attack. To get 27 decks costs me 27 rank points, so 27 points=102 attack, or 3.78 attack per rank point. If I had put that into Tactical Officers, 27 points=54 officers=+54 attack. so that would be 2.00 attack per rank point. Pretty shitty if you ask me. The gap will only become wider as you increase in ranks.

Not the same thing, this thread is about crew only.

Non looks very good but the ones I would start picking up a lore of crew wise are:

Tactical Officers (increases attack something also nice to have a lot of in a raid if I am right).

Helmsmen (keep you safe while attacking the ship giving higher chances to live to the point you can raid).

But any crew helps with a raid as far as I know.

Well I guess if you WANT to screw up your entire ship defenses for the rest of the entire time you play the game, I suppose Engineers or Scientists would be the best. Scientists for more research for better planet structures since you won't have the decks to fit any of the higher tech weapons/energy/defenses/cloaking/etc. Engineers to make up for the fact that, again, you have no space for higher tech energy structures.

Engineers. The only other way you get energy is bound to be maxed out. Contributes to RL capabilities. Nothing wrong with ranking up faster. Still helps with raids. Can't buy them or tactical officers. Seems to have more foresight than getting tactical officers.

Easy answer: Scientists.

Why? 1 rank point = 3 crewmen.. 15 crewmen every rank up vs 10 crewmen if u invested rp into non-scientists.. It adds up nicely for raid power.. 50% more power for raid for scientists. Just be warned, Dev could change raid formula anytime that can screw up ur long-term plan, heh.

Also, scientists are the only crew type that does not have a equivelent module.

I'd like to see a pure konqul raider with only tactical officers and/or some helmsmen. No decks at all. It would be a GD menace as it stands now. Pretty much no need to even have planets or research or anything... It seems fitting in a way. I don't know if the math would work. Just steal the consumable artifacts and raise unholy hell.

MegaGamer (3rd one in kill list) is a good fit to your description. :) But he just upgraded to cruiser I guess cuz of artifact shipments for rescued prisoners/shipbots.. I would assume that he invested most or all of rank points into crewmen so far..
