I just colonized my 12th for approx 1,300,000. The 11th was 1,000,000 and the 10th was 726,000 or so, and I'm pretty sure the 9th was around 512,000. So I'd say the 8th would be about 250,000?

planet 51 is around 123 million, and planet 52 is about 134 Million.... double that cost if you plan on invading to take a planet

this should be added to the wiki if it is not already.

The numbers I'm seeing suggest that it's a setup based on powers of 2 and 5. Numbers don't seem to fit a formula, but there could be a rounding mechanism creating that appearance.
Prediction says: 15 is a little above 2,048,000. 20 should be around 8,192,000. Shortly after that, 10,000,000 should appear on the table. One of the planets near 26 is 16,384,000. 32 is about 32,768,000. 41 or 42 is exactly 65,536,000. Something near planet 48 is 100,000,000. 52, as already noted, is slightly above 131,072,000. A planet vaguely near 63 should be exactly 262,144,000.
1 billion credits exactly should be the cost of one of the planets near 80. Around 120, we should be seeing numbers in the area of 2,097,152,000. 150 is nearly 8,388,608,000.

Using the numbers provided, I figured out what seems to be the formula:
n = number of planets currently colonized x = n - 1
p(x) = (x^3 + 3x^2 + 3x + 1) * 1000
I have no idea what the first planet is supposed to cost. According to this formula, it's free, but I don't remember.
If anyone actually cares, I can tell you how I came about this formula.

p(x) = (x^3 + 3x^2 + 3x + 1) * 1000 Hmm, barring that first planet you already pointed out, it does seem to match the data perfectly. Nicely done!

Might want to rephrase it as n = the planet number you're colonizing; x=n-2. Less likely for people to make mistakes that way.
I tried to test the formula and kept getting off-by-one errors until the seventh time I reread the post and realized I was making a logical error rather than the formula having a mathematical error.

Great guide. No wonder folks aren't as generous on the planet alerts! I hacked 2 rares and scanned another one (terra class). I claimed one and gave the other 2 to my legion. I see now that getting great planets when you are low level is much much more cost effecient. Oh well, glad I was a team player.

Your first planet IS free (0 credits). The formula works perfectly.
